2012 LA Preview: Audi adding A8, A6, A7 and Q5 to its TDI diesel lineup

At the 2012 LA Auto Show, Audi will debut a new range of its TDI clean diesel models for the A8, A7, A6 and Q5.

The addition of these four diesel models marks the first time Audi will feature a full lineup of TDI clean diesel vehicles in the United States along with the Q7 TDI they already offer. Audi says that each TDI vehicle delivers up to 30% better fuel economy and 30% lower carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines.

“Owners of Audi TDI engines have helped save over 4 million gallons of gasoline, or the equivalent of more than 240,000 barrels of foreign oil, since the introduction of Audi TDI to the U.S. in 2009,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. ” And, TDI technology delivers better fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance.”

All the Audi models will carry a 3.0 liter diesel unit making 240-hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. While Audi didn’t release the fuel-economy or performance figures of each model it did give some details on the A8 TDI. 0 to 60 mph for the Audi A8 TDI comes in 3.4 seconds with estimated fuel-economy figures coming in at 24/36 mpg (city/highway).
