2014 Subaru BRZ to get turbo 2.0 boxer engine making 280-hp

According to sources, Subaru is working on a turbocharged direct-injection version of its 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine found in the BRZ. Insiders say that the turbo version of the engine will indeed find its way into the BRZ for the next model year.

The engine uses a single twin-scrool turbocharger developed in-house and a straight direct-injection. That’s different than the DI/port-injection system engineered with Toyota.

In the BRZ, the turbocharged engine could produce up to 280-hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Currently, the Subaru BRZ makes 200-hp and 151 lb-ft of torque.

The Subaru BRZ Turbo will debut in the 2014 model.
