Report: Audi kills plans for production Quattro concept, goes for crossover instead

Audi fans – it’s time for another disappointment from the brand’s future plans. According to CAR Magazine, Audi has killed any possibility of a production version of the Quattro concept. The company instead will focus on a Quattro-inspired crossover that will compete with the likes of the Range Rover Evoque.

What’s the reason? CAR says that research done by Audi shows that the market for ‘convential’ performance cars is just too stale (and that’s just too sad).

Performance crossovers are now more popular. At the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Audi showed a new concept called ‘Crosslane Concept’.

Power for the Audi Crosslane Concept comes from a 1.5 liter 3-cylinder TFSI engine mated to two electric motors. Weighing in at 3,064 pounds including the lithium-ion battery, the Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept is capable of going from 0 to 62 mph in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 113 mph.
