2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid starts at $25,790, gets 45 mpg

Volkswagen of America announced the pricing of the latest 2013 Jetta Hybrid via a press release today. With a $795 destination charged per vehicle, a base Jetta Hybrid will demand $25,790 from your pockets, with an upper level SE model priced at $27,785.

Volkswagen’s latest fuel miser is an industry-first to use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic instead of the common CVT/Atkinson Cycle four-banger combination like often found on Toyota or Honda hybrid models. Mated to that seven-speed DSG transmission is Volkswagen Group’s new 1.4L turbocharged and direct-injected TSI four-banger good for 170hp and 184lb-ft of torque, which is actually slightly more powerful than the Jetta’s 2.5L five-banger-powered sibling (that makes 170hp and 177 lb-ft of twist).

Sixty comes up in about nine seconds, but more importantly, the Jetta Hybrid can be driven on all-electric mode at speed of up to 44 mph for a distance of 1.2 miles, depending on the conditions.

Volkswagen estimates that the 2013 Jetta Hybrid will achieve around 45 mpg on the combined cycle.

Sales are expected to begin at the end of this year.
