Report: Infiniti to drop V8 engines from its lineup

There is no surprise that tougher fuel-economy and emissions regulations are putting a dent in high-performance cars with giant V8s. New reports suggest that Infiniti will soon be dropping V8 engines from its lineup in favor of turbo 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. EVs and hybrids could also play a part in getting more performance out of 4-bangers and 6-cylinders as well.

Currently, three Infiniti models use V8 engines including the FX, QX and the M sedan.

Insiders say that weight reduction and aerodynamic enhancements will also play a role in maintaining power-to weight ratios and performance levels.

The coming-soon departure from V8s was confirmed by Infiniti global president Johan de Nysschen in Australia for the local launch of the Infiniti brand last week.

I wonder what’s going to end up happening with the future of Infiniti IPL vehicles.
