Audi picks San Jose Chiapa, Mexico for new North American plant

After scouring out tons of locations, Audi carefully selected its location for its new North American plant in San Jose Chiapa, Mexico.

The plant is part of the automaker’s Strategy 2020, a plan that focuses on expansion, and CEO Rupert Stadler says that this location is “Important for the American market and for our global growth.”

In choosing the location, Audi considered factors such as quality of life, internationally recognized education systems, logistics and conditions to be sure that employees would be satisfied with the location.

“The new plant in San José Chiapa will be the most modern in the Audi production network for its efficient use of resources and production methods,” remarked Audi Board Member for Production Frank Dreves. “The Audi Production System means we build cars of premium quality at every single one of our sites.”

Audi’s Q5 SUV will be produced at the plant, which should begin construction starting mid-2013, with production scheduled to start in 2016.
