Report: Mercedes-Benz working on SLS AMG E-Cell Roadster

Mercedes is gearing up to launch the SLS AMG E-Cell on a limited production basis for 2013. According to new reports, the company may be working on a drop-top version of the electric-supercar.

Reported by De Telegraaf, Mercedes-Benz plans to start pitching the SLS AMG E-Cell coupe to customers later this year. If consumers don’t show that much interest, Mercedes could work out an SLS AMG E-Cell Roadster to generate more buzz.

Mercedes-Benz has previously noted that the SLS AMG E-Cell is powered by four electric-motors that pump out 526-hp and 649 lb-ft of torque. That allows it to go from standstill to 60 mph in just 4 seconds – which is just .2 seconds slower than the V8 model.
