Report: Audi Q5 getting 3.0L TDI V6 in US when Q5 gets updated

Earlier this spring, Audi had unveiled an updated Q5 along with a full list of engine options. The unveiling however only spoke of the European Domestic Market version of the Q5, and not the US-bound version. That said, questions were raised about whether the Q5’s 3.0L V6 TDI diesel will hit our shores.

Now though, some new reports are out from CARandDRIVER, who spoke to Audi in an interview. In that interview, C/D was able to confirm with Audi that the updated US-spec Q5 will receive Europe’s epic 3.0L turbodiesel V6, good for 245hp and a lofty 428 lb-ft of torque, all available from 1750rpm.

With such figures, Audi said that a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds is expected while the fuel economy is supposed to tip the scales at 37 mpg on the combined European cycle. Expect slightly lower figures for the US version. But either way, knowing how modern German diesels love to be much more frugal than their gas counterparts, all while providing a buttload of unstoppable torque, in a great package such as the Audi Q5, sounds like Audi has a quality choice in the segment.

Audi also said that we could expect the new Q5 TDI V6 to hit our showrooms as early as next summer as a 2014 model.
