Report: Chrysler also files for “EcoDiesel” badge for US-bound diesel-powered models
In lieu of Chrysler filing a trademark for a new “HFE” badge to help drill into buyers the fact that their cars are fuel efficient, a new report is out saying that Chrysler is also doing the same for their new diesel engines to prepare for the long road of marketing ahead.
The new badge is destined to be “EcoDiesel,” which is expected to first debut on the new US-bound diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, while spreading to other models should Chrysler choose to sell more diesel engine equipped vehicles.
More specifically, some journalists found that “EcoDiesel 3.0” was the most specific trademark filed by Chrysler. By logical deduction, some have already pondered the idea that the “3.0” stands for a 3.0L displacing diesel engine, which is already presumed to be a modified version of the European turbodiesel V6 good for 241hp and 406 lb-ft of torque for Jeep Grand Cherokees and Chrysler 300s over yonder.
The diesel models for the US are also expected to come equipped with a five-speed automatic with a ZF eight-speed following later on. But equipped with the five-speed, the Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel is expected to fetch a pretty lofty 23/33 city/highway mpg. Of course, expect better figures with the eight-speed auto. As far as we at egmCarTech are concerned, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300 just got a whole lot sweeter with the anticipated new diesel V6.
