The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been a very successful mode for Chrysler Group LLC and word on the street is that an update is coming very soon. The SUV will now have a shortened 2013 model year so that in January the brand can offer an 8-speed automatic transmission and a diesel engine for the 2014 model year.

Production for the 2013 model year Jeep Grand Cherokee will start in August and the model will continue to be produced with a 5-speed automatic.
In January, that 5-speed transmission will be replaced by an ZF 8-speed automatic and around that time a 3.0 liter diesel engine will also make its way into the SUV. The diesel will produce 241-hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. Fuel-economy is elected to come in at 23/33 mpg (city/highway).
