Report: Infiniti plans to increase global sales to 500,000 by 2016

Infiniti has an ambitious goal set out for the European market. The company plans to triple its global sales to 500,000 units by 2016 units from 146,000 last year – that would mean increasing European sales to 100,000 vehicles from 12,500 last year.

Infiniti is counting on a new compact model that will hit European markets in 2014 for a increase ins sales. The model will be built in Europe and will compete head-to-head with the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

“This new vehicle represents a significant opportunity for the Infiniti brand to reach new consumers and grow in key markets such as western Europe,” said Andy Palmer, Nissan’s executive vice president responsible for Infiniti.

The model wil leb a production version of the Ehterea concept and will be built by Magna Steyr.
