Report: Chrysler Group adds 2006 and 2007 model year Jeep Liberty’s to recall

Not too long ago, a recall was issued by the NHTSA and the Chrysler Group for 2004 and 2005 model year SUVs. In that recall, it was found that in northern climate states where road salts are used during the winter can cause significant corrosion to the SUV’s rear suspension, leading to failure.

Now though, a new report is out saying that 2006 and 2007 model year Jeep Liberty SUVs were added to that same recall. That equates to roughly 137,000 Jeep Liberties, making for a total of 346,900 units recalled.

Specifically speaking, the lower, control arms were found to be the culprit and were found to be prone to failure after exposure to road-salt rich areas.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began this investigation in April after receiving nine reports of lower control arm failures.
