2012 Beijing: GM CEO confirms Cadillac ELR to be sold in China
General Motors CEO Dan Akerson confirmed earlier this week that the Cadillac ELR electric coupe will be joining the XTS sedan in China, the brand’s second-largest market.
“China has quickly become the fastest-growing market for Cadillac. Last year, sales rose by 73 percent,” said Akerson. “Introducing the XTS is part of our strategy of adding one new model per year to our Cadillac lineup in China through 2016 to address the needs of luxury car buyers nationwide.”

The Cadillac ELR features an electric propulsion system made up of a T-shaped lithium-ion battery, an electric drive unit and a 4-cylinder engine-generator. When the battery runs out, the ELR seamlessly switches to extended-range mode to enable driving for hundreds of additional miles (just like the Volt).
Additional details on the ELR’s technologies, production location and China market introduction will be announced at a later date.
The Cadillac ELR will also be sold in the United States.
