2012 Beijing: Volkswagen E-Bugster Speedster Concept drops its top In China

While the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet was no where to be seen at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show, V-Dub did unveil a speedster version of their E-Bugster Concept.

Power for the Volkswagen E-Bugster Speedster Concept comes from a 114-hp electric-motor that allows it to run from 0 to 62 mph in 10.8 seconds. On a full charge of its 28.3 kWh lithium-ion batteries, the E-Bugster Speedster Concept allows for a total driving range of 111 miles. With a quick charging function, Volkswagen says that the battery can be fully charged in just 35 minutes.

With the debut of the E-Bugster Speedster, Volkswagen is introducing the idea of a new Combined Charging System that allows the EV to be charged via one interface using any available charging modalities.

“This will be based on a new, uniform industry standard for the connectors of future electric vehicles that will be available to all manufacturers,” V-Dub said in a statement. “And this standardisation goes beyond the plug itself: in the Combined Charging System, the charge controller and the electrical architecture must be able to handle all charging types. This will reduce costs and simplify widespread global implementation of electric mobility.”
