Report: Google adds Lexus RX450h to autonomous driving development

Autonomous cars seem to be the next big thing in automotive innovation. Whether it’s a good or bad thing is still up for debate. But either way, to exemplify advancements in this technology, Google seems to have added another vehicle to their autonomous fleet vehicle program.

A random photo was taken featuring what appears to be a brand new Lexus RX450h with a bunch of nerdy looking equipment sitting on top. The report ponders the idea that Google has been making advancements with the top-mounted sensors that help the autonomous driving programs to run.

Initially, Google’s autonomous car fleet consisted of six Toyota Prii and one modified TT. However, Google’s research and development—and the program in general—has remained fairly quiet in terms of its progression.

“In the course of our work, we experiment with testing our algorithms on various vehicles to help us improve our technology,” said a spokesperson for Google in an interview.

Google has been researching autonomous vehicles for over two years now in conjunction with the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Library.
