Report: Nissan focusing on plug-in hybrid powertrain, diesel still in question
Nissan has been aiming high with their future lineup plans. As a result, new information surrounding the brand has been flooding the news desks. The word is that Nissan is currently working on a new plug-in hybrid system for the next generation Altima hybrid and other models as well.
“Plug-in hybrid technology is a promising path. Clearly we are working on it,” Pierre Loing, Nissan’s product strategy vice-president, told interviewers.
That said however, because Nissan is focusing their efforts on the plug-in hybrid system, the potential for diesel models dwindled as a result.
“Diesel is an open question. In the U.S., diesel is very limited,” Loing elaborated. “Because of fuel cost and availability, as well as government regulations, the case is more difficult here. But still, I’m ready to look at it.”
Either way, it will still be interesting to see what Nissan has up their sleeves for the next several years.
