Lamborghini SUV will be the first bull buyers can use everyday, not coming until 2017

Lamborghini plans on unveiling an SUV concept at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show later this month. The model, which could be known as the Deimos (meaning terror), won’t be on the roads until 2017, according to CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

Speaking to German business daily Handelsblatt today, Winkelmann said that the SUV will be the third model in the brand’s lineup and will help the brand be more profitable. China and the United States seem to be the key markets for the new SUV model.

“We definitely need a third line in the mid- and long term,” Winkelmann said. “An SUV would be the first Lamborghini for everyday use, not just for the race track or weekends. We would have the opportunity to win new customers.”

Currently (and we’re hoping you know this), Lamborghini only sells the Gallardo and the Aventador.

Winkelmann said that the executives at parent Volkswagen will decided this year whether to completely greenlight the SUV. “t usually takes 48 months until an all-new vehicle arrives at dealers, so the new Lamborghini would not be available to buy before 2017.”
