2012 New York: 2013 Nissan Altima is ready to take back mid-size family sedan leadership

Just a day or so ago, Nissan pulled the virtual sheets off of its latest generation of the mid-sized Altima prior to the release presentation at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. Now though, we have some fresh new pictures of the new Altima showing off its new sheetmetal.

The new 2013 Altima underwent an entire redesign, taking after the attractive Maxima sedan with some cues from the current Versa as well.

Under the bonnet are two engine options: Nissan’s traditional 2.5L QR25 four-banger good for 182hp and 180 lb-ft of torque as well as their typical VQ35DE V6 good for 270hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunatey though, the Altima only comes with the brand’s familiar CVT transmission. Well, darn.

Either way, I am impressed with the new Altima redesign and it’s a great departure from the previous generation design wise. But will the Altima be able to compete with the rest of the pack by just offering a CVT transmission? Only time will tell when we get one for review.
