Video: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 laps Nurburgring in 8:49, slower by 25 seconds than X6 M

If there is anyone that knows each and every turn on the Nurburgring, it has to be Sabine Schmitz, who grew up on the track driving the BMW M5 taxi. Schmitz recently took the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 around the Nurburgring and returned a lap time of 8:49.00.

That’s 25 seconds slower than the BMW X6 M.

This is probably the biggest Nurburgring achievement for American automakers after the CTS-V putting the old BMW M5 to shame on the famous German track.

Refresher: Power for the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 comes from the same 6.4 liter HEMI V8 making 470-hp with a peak torque of 465 lb-ft of torque. That will push the Grand Cherokee SRT8 from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and will allow it to run a quarter mile in the mid-13 second range. Top speed comes in at 160 mph. Prices for the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 start at $55,295.
