Fisker Atlantic images get leaked ahead of New York debut

We will now take a break from some April Fools Day news (we’re really hoping you can figure out which articles are a prank and which are real), to bring you some serious breaking news.

The first two images of the Fisker Atlantic, a model being built under the company’s Project Nina line, have been leaked via Czech site Autoforum. The Fisker Atlantic will be the first model (out of the three) under the Nina umbrella and will debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show next week.

We have no official details on the technical specs of the Atlantic, however, we do know that it will be the first model to use BMW’s 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo engine. In Sept. 2011, Fisker and BMW agreed on a deal where BMW will supply Fisker with up to 100,000 4-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engines. The engine will of course be hooked up to an electric-motor, making the Atlantic a plug-in hybrid sedan.

So far, reports suggest that Fisker is looking to offer the Atlantic as an affordable plug-in hybrid unlike its $100,000+ Karma sedan. The Fisker Atlantic should hit markets by next year.
