Report: Ram trucks to get new V6, 8-speed transmission

Chrysler Group filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday with the details of the upcoming Ram pickup.

Scheduled for April release the new Ram will be powered by the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 coupled to an eight-speed transmission. It is reported in the filing that the transmission “reduces fuel consumption by up to 12 percent over out current five-speed transmission”.

In order to reduce weight, the Ram will be getting lightweight axels, which, combined with the transmission and the new motor will help improve EPA ratings. Currently the EPA on the Ram is around 14 city/ 20 highway mpg.

Even though Chrysler has kept all the details quite until now, filing with the SEC makes the information public. The rest may not be made public until next month when the pick up is released.
