Report: Fiat won’t make cars bigger than its C-segment cars

At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Fiat unveiled its new 500 L, a larger version of its 500 subcompact that can accommodate more travelers – but that’s as big Fiat plans on going. According to Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne, Fiat may never position itself above the C-segment.

The company completed production of the D-segment Croma last year and now has no model larger than the Bravo. Actually the Croma was a model that Marchionne liked a lot but never gained traction – leading him to re-evaluate the brand.

“We need to be clear on the potential of the Fiat brand and its DNA,” he said. “Now we have Chrysler, we don’t need to push Fiat into a space it can’t manage. We also have Alfa to play higher than Fiat.”
