Tesla Model X geared toward women and ‘six of her friends’

While I wouldn’t mind driving the new Tesla Model X electric crossover by any means, Tesla Motors says that it had women in mind when designing the car.

Scheduled to hit markets in 2014, Tesla says that the Model X has ‘the functionality of a minivan with a design as cool as an SUV.’ However, it also says that when the Model X was ‘built around the driver – and six of her friends.’

And to make sure that Tesla designers had the right crowd in mind, the company invited a dozen women from its hometown of Palo Alto, California to its headquarters for a focus group that was led by head designer Franz von Holzhausen.

Even several designers of the Model X are women, including Nancy Holman, Susanne Neuhauser and Kimberly Marte.

Refresher: The Tesla Model X will offer a dual motor all wheel drive and the option of a 60 or 85 kWh battery. The Model X Performance version will accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds. This would make Model X faster than many sports cars, including the Porsche 911 Carrera. A range of up to 300 miles is expected for the top-level Tesla Model X.
