2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG unveiled in Barcelona

The new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG has been unveiled at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona where it made its debut alongside the 2012 Silver Arrow, the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 W03.  Based on the redesigned 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, the new SL63 AMG will hit U.S. dealerships in mid-July.

Power for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG comes from a twin-turbo 5.5 liter direct-injected V8 engine making 530-hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The output is directed to the rear whees through an AMG Speed shift MCT 7-speed sports transmission, allowing the 2013 SL63 AMG to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

Buyers can upgrade to the AMG Performance Package which bumps up output to 557-hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. It drops the 0 to 60 mph down by 0.1 second and top speed jumps to 186 mph.

Mercedes-Benz’s AMG department says that a total of 275 pounds were dropped from the car, which helped the twin-turbo V8 return 30 percent better fuel-economy. AMG Active Suspension, AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, AMG high-performance braking system, AMG exhaust and AMG alloy wheels. Interior features will include two-tone nappa leather, carbon fiber trim, illuminated sills  and ambient lighting. Options include Active Parking Assist, Airscarf heating, Bang & Olufsen BeoSound system, Driving Assist package and much more.

Prices will be announced closer to launch.
