Toyota plans on selling a total of 8.48 million vehicles when it comes to global sales in 2012. The company is planning even a bigger year in 2013. In 2011, Toyota’s sales were heavily battered by the March earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.
Toyota has been lagging behind General Motors and Volkswagen so far this year, sinking to the No.3 spot. Its global vehicle sales for this year have hit 7.9 million, down 6 percent from 2010.
GM, which has year to release its global sales numbers for 2011, held the largest automaker title until Toyota stole it in 2008.
Toyota’s 2012 target will be the company’s record high and is based on achieving a 20 percent growth in global sales. The automaker’s current sales record was hit in 2007 with a total of 8.43 million vehicles.
