MyFord Mobile App wins 2012 International CES Innovation Design and Engineering Award

Earlier this year, Ford released it’s new MyFord Mobile app which will make life a little simpler for future owners of the Focus Electric. The app is loaded with industry-first features such as remote vehicle motoring and management, which has helped it win the 2012 International CES Innovation Design and Engineering Award.

“MyFord Mobile is designed to help Focus Electric drivers maximize their gasoline-free driving in a worry-free, low-effort way,” said Bill Frykman, Product & Business Development, Ford Connected Services. “Drivers can take advantage of information stored off-board to automatically charge their cars at the lowest possible cost and reduce range anxiety with plug-to-plug route planning.”

Cloud technology is also available via Microsoft which allows drivers to see when off-peak rates kick in to help drivers with charging costs. Using one of the apps settings, drivers can just plug the Focus Electric in and the app will find when rates drop and start charging it. The included navigation system can also plan charging stops and usage for a trip. It also has the capability to preheat or cool the inside, alert owners to power outages that interrupt charging, and alert when charging is completed.

Andriod, iPhone, and BlackBerry smartphones all have the app available, as well as a mobile web app for platforms that are not supported.
