Report: Subaru BRZ to make a little less than 300-hp, convertible version under consideration

By this point you’re probably sick and tired of hearing about the Toyota FT-86 and the Subaru BRZ. Well, bear with us because we have some exciting new information to share with you – well, at least of the Subaru version.

According to reports, the Subaru BRZ Sports Coupe will have the lowest center of gravity of any production car when it hits dealerships next year. How so? With the BRZ’s RWD configuration, Subaru was able to mount the 2.0 liter Boxer engine even lower than the chassis would normally allow in the brand’s conventional AWD layout.

Also, despite being developed in a partnership with Toyota, the Subaru BRZ will be more powerful than the FT-86. Sources say that the BRZ will make a little less than 300-hp, compared with the Toyota FT-86’s 200-hp figure.

Other speculation states that Subaru is even considering a convertible version of the BRZ and that the topless version is already on the drawing board.

The Subaru BRZ will debut alongside the Toyota FT-86 at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
