Report: Daimler and BYD electric-car coming in spring

Daimler and Chinese automaker BYD have put plans to build the first electric car of the collaborative effort on hold. The companies say that the premiere prototype will debut next April.

Dieter Zetsche, Daimler boss, says that his brand is doing the majority of the planning and development on the car, and could easily work with a different automaker. Zetsche, however, believes that BYD has superior battery technology, and that it is better to wait on the prototype.

BYD laid off thousands of its employees recently and therefore has been pushed to put some projects on hold. While the automaker admits to some errors in policy¬† a few years ago, Daimler still remains confident in the brand’s capabilities and technology.
