Subaru’s redesigned 2012 Impreza will rolling off the sales lots starting in November. The performance versions, however, will be far behind, as the WRX and STI models are not scheduled for release for about another two years.
The current body styles will continue to be available until the new versions are released. Subaru executives are still debating over making a grown-up version of the performance models, even though this idea has backfired with previous generations. In 2008 the attempt resulted in the automaker completely changing the car for the very next model year, with over 40 additional horses and 1.1 second faster 0-60mph time.
Perhaps Subaru will take a hint from history and keep the design focus where it is.
