Marchionne: Suzuki would be an interesting partner for Asian markets

Suzuki and Volkswagen are apparently filing for a divorce after Volkswagen claimed that Suzuki violated its cooperation agreement with the automaker by purchasing diesel engines from Fiat SpA. Fiat has been pretty quite on the whole matter… until now.

Speaking at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said that Suzuki would be an interesting partner for the Asian market.

“With Suzuki we have had an industrial cooperation for a long time,” Marchionne said. Speaking on Suzuki’s relationship problems with Volkswagen he said they “have nothing to do with us.”

Suzuki’s Chairman Osamu Suzuki said earlier this week that he plans to end the two-year capital alliance with Volkswagen, comparing the partnership to a “ball and chain.”
