2011 Frankfurt: Volkswagen pays homage to dune buggy with Buggy Up! Concept

Volkswagen has a history with the sand dune buggy that was born in California in the 1960s. It’s almost as much of an icon as the Beetle itself, the car that the original was based on. So that’s why Volkswagen AG has just unveiled its latest conceptual study: the Buggy Up!

Featuring a lightweight body made from a collection of extensive reinforcements, the two-door Buggy Up! also comes with a roll bar between the two occupant seats as there’s no roof. The Buggy Up! rides on 18-inch alloys with 205/40 tires.

Additionally, since the Buggy Up! is a straight on beach vehicle, the interior is completely waterproof with special drains integrated into the floor pans and side sills that open to prevent flooding.

Despite taking shape in person, Volkswagen AG didn’t disclose whether the Buggy Up! will be put into production. Either way, Volkswagen has made a clearer message saying that the concept signifies an entire series of cars based on the Up!
