GM’s China sales up 13.4 percent in Aug. 2011, set month sales record

General Motors announced that its China sales in August set a record for the month, leading GM to its third-best sales month in 2011. Sales in China in August 2011 were up 13.4 percent on an annual basis to 205,885 units.

During the first 8 months of 2011, GM and its joint ventures sold a total of 1,652,693 vehicles in China, up 5.4 percent from the same period last year.

Shanghai GM sales in China were up 21.7 percent to 98,674 units while sales by SAIC-GM-Wuling, including its new Baojun brand, were up 8.2 percent to 102,959 units.

Buick sales in China were up 22.6 percent in August to a record 56,026 units. Chevrolet sales were up 55.8 percent to 2,531 units. The SRX remained the Caddy’s best-selling model, with sales totaling 1,772 units.
