Rumor: Audi’s next A4 to come in 2014, a plug-in hybrid possible

Some new rumors are popping up about Audi’s latest contribution to the green scene. In 2014, a new Audi A4 is supposed arrive. But along with the ordinary A4 is something different. This new A4 won’t only ride on Audi’s new lightweight MLB Evo platform, allowing a decrease of 300 pounds from the current A4’s weight. Word is that a plug-in variant will make its way into production.

Despite the reduction on weight, the next generation A4 will grow in size to better compete with the BMW 3-Series.

In terms of the plug-in hybrid, rumor has it that an electric motor will be mounted to the rear axle with a gas engine powering the front wheels. Along with that rumor says that the plug-in A4 can achieve up to 37 miles on electricity alone. The supposed system will probably carry a name that’s to the tune of e-Quattro.

As for the regular versions, the usual mixture of gasoline and diesels can be expected.
