The Bonneville Salt Flats is every speed freak’s holy grail. It’s no wonder that it is home to some of the fastest land speed records of all time. And that’s why it’s also used for a testing ground to see who can brake the land speed record for a specific type of vehicle.

Lightning Motorcycles just had their crack at breaking the land speed record for the fastest electric motorcycle. After their test runs this past weekend, Lightning Motorcycles walked away with a recorded top speed trapped at 208.386 mph.

The man responsible for riding the bike to its top speed was Race-Tech’s Paul Thede, a veteran of the Salt Flats. Thede is one of 65 to take a motorcycle above 200 mph and is the first to do so on an electric motorcycle.
