BMW i brand preview scheduled for tomorrow in Frankfurt

BMW i3, BMW i8

BMW announced earlier today that the company will be holding a press conference tomorrow at 12:00 CEST in Frankfurt to preview the new BMW i brand.

BMW didn’t offer any other concrete details but you can expect to see the BMW i3 and the BMW i8 in either prototype or production form.

The BMW i brand is focused on producing sustainable mobility solutions. The sub-brand will offer a lineup of electric-vehicles starting 2013 with the BMW i3 and the BMW i8. Other models are expected to follow.

The BMW i3 will be the first mass-produced BMW i model with a rumored base sticker of around $35,000 and will offer 150 hp fully electric. The range is expected to come in around 160 miles with a top speed of 100 mph.

The BMW i8 on the other hand will be a limited production model. It will be powered by a 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine mated to a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle. Jointly the system will produce an output of 328-hp. 0-62 mph comes in just 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel-economy is estimated at 63 mpg and the concept can provide 31 miles of zero-emissions driving.
