BMW’s M GmbH department is very busy developing future models, some of which have surfaced in a report over at AutoExpress. According to the publication, BMW is planning to launch a Porsche Cayman and Audi TT RS rival.

While that is a key product, BMW is also working on a new ‘revolutionary’ M3 and is discussing a competitor to the Lamborghini Aventador.

The BMW M2 will be based on the company’s F21 platform, which is also scheduled to underpin the upcoming 2-Series, due in 2014. The model is expected to be a direct decedent of the 1-Series but the 2-Series badging will be used to overcome the problem of using the M branding with the 1-Series nameplate.

Two engines are under consideration including a 3.0L 6-cylinder turbo with 350-hp and an innovative tri-turbo engine that will off similar output rating with better fuel-economy.

The BMW X3 M is scheduled to debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
