Guess what pickup fans? General Motors will start retooling assembly plants next year to start building the next-generation of its full-sized pickups.

General Motors will begin retooling assembly plants next year to build the next generation of its full-sized pickups.

“We have some scheduled plant downtime in 2012 as we convert to the next generation of our pickups,” GM’s U.S. sales chief Don Johnson said. He did not confirm when the sales of the next-generation pickups would begin.

GM’s pickup trucks were last redesigned for the 2007 model year. But don’t keep holding your breath because sources familiar with the plans say that production is still scheduled to begin in 2013 for the 2014 model year.
