Exclusive: BMW X1 will come to the U.S. with a 240-hp 4-banger turbo

BMW is slowly starting to offer its new 2.0 liter TwinPower turbocharged inline 4-cylinder unit around the world. In the United State, the first model to get the 240-hp 4-banger will be the 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i – as we saw at the 2011 New York Auto Show earlier this year.

Earlier this year, BMW unveiled the 2011 BMW X1 xDrive28i, which was the first model to get the new 2.0L 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo. Well, BMW has just confirmed with egmCarTech that when the BMW X1 heads over to the stateside late next year, the base model will be the xDrive28i.

Performance wise, the X1 xDrive28i isn’t that bad, When mated to a 6-speed manual, the 4-cylinder turbo X1 will run from 0 to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds (6.5 with a 6-speed automatic).
