Earlier this year, Volkswagen received much exposure to its 2012 Passat sedan with it’s Super Bowl XLV commercial featuring a pint-sized Darth Vader. Ever since there have been many parodies to the commercial on YouTube and now Greenpeace is joining the fun.
The organization has created a spoof to Volkswagen’s ‘The Force’ commercial featuring the tiny Darth Vader being bullied by the Rebel Alliance. Why? Greenpeace says that Volkswagen is threatening our planet by opposing cuts to CO2 emissions.
“Despite its green image, Volkswagen is spending millions of Euros every year funding lobby groups who are trying to stop Europe increasing its commitment to greenhouse gas reductions from 20% to 30% by 2020,” Greenpeace said. “Progressive companies – from Google to Ikea, Sony, Unilever and Philips – support the target. Volkswagen can’t afford to be left behind.”
Currently (as I write this), there are 40,338 ‘Jedi have joined the Rebellion.’ You can check out Episode 1 of the Greenpeace commercial but to see Episode 2, you must join the rebellion.
