Rumor: Next Mini Cooper hatchback to get optional suicide doors

2011 Mini Cooper

MINI has had great success ever since its revival in the early 2000s and as a result, went from producing just the Mini Cooper to other, more practical variants such as the Clubman and the Countryman.

To continue expanding the options for the MINI lineup, the next generation is going to feature optional suicide doors on top of a five door version. Of course, the MINI is no where near the size of a 1960s Lincoln Continental to feature true full length suicide doors, but we could expect something along the lines of the trick doors on either the Mazda RX-8 or cab versions of various pick-ups.

The five door variant is expected to gain some weight and a hike in price to compete with some larger competitors. Regardless of the additions however, the F56 MINI will more or less be the same size as the previous R53 and R56 generation MINIs.

The next generation F56 MINI is expected to debut sometime next year with a sale launch date following a couple months later in the fall of 2012 and the five-door will succeed the original two-door version.
