Mercedes wants to add more designers, jump in on the apps for automobiles market

Mercedes-Benz - Gorden Wagener

Mercedes-Benz’s chief designer Gorden Wagener says that the company is looking to strengthen its global design team by adding people to fill specialized roles. The company is looking to hire new stylists in China. Wagener said that Mercedes-Benz wants to create more than two dozen jobs in China

“We still certainly need a few people in the area of graphics development and implementation quality,” Wagener, 42, said.

Currently, about 590 people work in the Mercedes-Benz design department – 430 of which are based in Sindelfingen, near Stuttgart. The other designers are located in the company’s four other car styling studios around the world.

Separately, Wagener said that Mercedes-Benz also wants to jump in on the Internet app for automobile market.

“We have our own telematics research and graphics pre-development operation in Palo Alto (California),” he said. “In addition, we can imagine developing a so-called ‘Mercedes App Store,’ with apps that make the life of the Mercedes driver even more comfortable.”
