Report: Baby Mercedes-Benz SLS development moves forward

2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Ever since the debut of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, it has been rumored that the Stuttgart automaker has been working on a baby version of the supercar. According to new reports coming out of the UK, the baby SLS AMG has received an official codename, which is traditionally the first step towards development.

Known internally as the Mercedes-Benz SLC, the new model will be launched in 2014 with a projected price tag of £75,000 ($121,340 USD).

Mercedes-Benz’s AMG department will be responsible for the engineering, development and testing for the SLC.

Power is expected to come from AMG’s new M157 engine – a 5.5L V8 unit pushing some 420-hp. To put that in perspective, that’s 149-hp less than the naturally aspirated 6.3L V8 in the SLS AMG.
