Infiniti JX will be built at Nissan’s Tennessee plant

A coupe days before the 2011 New York Auto Show, Nissan confirmed that it is working on a new three-row luxury crossover that will go on sale in the United States in spring 2012 as a 2013 model.

Carlos Tavares, chairman of Nissan Americas, has confirmed that the new 7-passenger Infiniti JX crossover will be built at the company’s in Smyrna, Tennessee. Tavares said that the move is part of the company’s efforts to get Nissan and Infiniti products out of yen and into dollars. He said he also wants to buy more parts from North American suppliers.

The Infiniti JX will be the third product added to Nissan’s Smyrna plant. The plant will also be taking over production of the Nissan Rogue with the redesigned 2013 model year version. The plant is undergoing a $1.4 billion project to add production of the Nissan LEAF and its lithium-ion batteries.
