2012 Chevrolet Sonic Z-Spec Accessories to debut in New York

Following the debut of the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic and the Sonic Z-Spec Concept at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, GM will show the first production Z-Spec accessories for the new compact car at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The Chevrolet Sonic Z-Spec on display will show “Color Out” accent packages with contrasting-color exterior parts and graphics that express the car’s performance characteristics.

“The new Z-Spec accessories reinforce Sonic’s fun, youthful spirit,” said Rick Scheidt, vice president, Chevrolet marketing. “Customization is particularly important with the customers we believe will gravitate toward the Sonic, and we want to help them make their vehicle look exactly the way they want as easily as possible.”

The Z-Spec accessories will initially include body-color ground effects, a silver exhaust tip, contrasting mirror caps and roof spoiler, contrasting upper and lower grille surrounds and a body graphics package, along with 16- and 17-inch painted alloy wheels. The ground effects kit adds a front fascia extension, rocker panel extensions, rear fascia extension and silver exhaust tip.

GM will sell the Z-Spec parts individually to suit customers tastes and wallets, or as a complete package. Don’t fell like paying for the whole package up front? Don’t worry because the Z-Spec parts purchased with the Sonic and installed by the dealer can be rolled into the car’s monthly payments.

Refresher: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic will go on sale in the later part of 2011 and will be available in a sedan and hatchback variant. The standard engine on the 2012 Sonic is a 1.8L DOHC inline 4-cylinder unit making 135-hp and 125 lb-ft of torque, while an optional 138-hp 1.4L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder is also available..
