Sources: BMW has hired GM’s former lead engineer on Chevrolet Volt

It was reported earlier this week that Opel AG’s product planning chief Frank Weber left General Motors to pursue “other business opportunities.” Sources said that Weber left GM to go work for a competitor. While at the time it wasn’t revealed where Weber went, we’re pretty sure many of you were wondering where Weber went

According to insiders that spoke with Automotive News Europe, Weber left General Motors to go work for BMW. Weber, who was also the lead engineer in the development of the Chevrolet Volt, is expected to assist BMW in developing the BMW i brand, which will be focused on producing electric-vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

Weber will report to Klaus Draeger, BMW’s head of research and development, company sources said.

Opel has not named a successor for Weber,
