Spyker Cars N.V., the owner of Saab, announced today that Jan Ake Jonsson has decided to retire from his position as President and CEO of Saab Automobile AB. He will stepping down effective per Spyker’s Annual General Shareholders meeting to be held on May 19, 2011.

“I have been with Saab for almost my entire career of 40 years, of which almost six years as the head of Saab Automobile,” said Jonsson. “The last three years have of course been very demanding and forced me to focus on one thing only – my work. Now it is time for me to also spend some time on other things that had to stand back for my duties to Saab.”

Saab said that a search for Jonsson’s successor has already begun. Jonsson will assist Saab’s Management with a smooth transition to his successor. He will remain available as such until September 1, 2011.

Until a successor to Jonsson is appointed, Victor Muller will temporarily assume the role of President and CEO of Saab.
