Maserati will unveil the next-generation Quattroporte later this year at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The trident brand plans to push the next-generation Quattroporte upmarket and reposition it against the Aston Martin Rapide and the Porsche Panamera.

Maserati CEO Harald Wester has previously confirmed that the next Quattroporte will add four-wheel-drive and stop-start technology. The next-generation Maserati Quattroporte will also drop 15 percent of its weight and increase fuel-consumption by 25 percent.

A smaller sedan, internally known as the M157 is also under development. While previous reports said that the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class competitor will debut later this year, new reports say that the model has been delayed to 2014.

The entry-level Maserati sedan is expected to carry a price tag of $68,000.
