Ssangyong could come to U.S. in two to five years

While Mahindra & Mahindra has so far failed in its attempt to export its pickups to the United States, the Indian automaker may find its way to the U.S. market through a Korean company called Ssangyong Motor Co. If Ssangyong sounds familiar it’s because they had a big presence at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show with the Actyon Sports Concept.
Ssangyong, a Korean SUV maker is now controlled by Mahindra and plans on selling vehicles in the United States in two to five years, according to Chairman Yoo Lee.
Mahindra owns a 70 percent controlling stake in Ssangyong and sees a potential of up to 20,000 units a year in the United States.
Lee said that the U.S. is a pillar in Ssangyong’s strategy to double global sales from the expected 120,000 units this year to 240,000 by 2014.
