At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Alfa Romeo unveiled its 4C Concept, a two-seater, rear-wheel drive coupe with its engine at the centre. The model is scheduled to go into production and will be sold worldwide beginning 2012, including the United States.

The Alfa Romeo 4C halo car “will bring us back into markets such as the United States, where we are not present today,” said Alfa CEO Harald Wester.

Alfa Romeo plans to produce 15,000 to 20,000 units of the 4C over 5 years. Another 5,000 to 10,000 units of a roadster version for Abarth will be built as well.

Refresher: The rear-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo 4C Concept weighs less than 1,873 lbs and is powered by a 1750 turbo gasoline engine with direct injection. The engine is mated to the ‘Alfa TCT’ twin dry clutch transmission and gives the Alfa Romeo 4C a weight/power ratio which is lower than 4 kg/HP allowing it to go from 0 to 62 mph in under 5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.
