Toyota to boost capacity at U.S. transmission plant

Toyota Motor Corp. is planning on investing $64 million to increase the production of transmissions at a plant in Buffalo, W. Va, thereby creating 40 jobs there. This move will increase Toyota’s transmission production capacity to almost 400,000 annually, and increase employment to 1,100. After the $64 million investment, the total investment in that individual plant by Toyota will be in excess of $1.2 billion.

Six-speed transmissions for the Toyota Avalon, Camry, Lexus RX350, Sienna, and Venza models equipped with 6-cylinder engines are all produced at the plant.

An additional $8.4 million will also be invested at the company’s Bodine Aluminum facilities in Tennessee and Missouri to increase capacity there in order to support the output increase in Buffalo. About 20 jobs will be created between the two plants.
